Reg Park was a strongman, bodybuilder and an actor from England, born in 1928. He was very active as a kid and he specialized in football, until he met David Cohen in 1944. David was a muscular guy who trained at his friend’s house, so Reg wanted to see what’s that all about and joined him. This happened to be a turning point in his life as he started training with dumbbells, barbells and a pull-up bar.
He made his first contest appearance in 1948 at NABBA Mr. Universe in which John Grimek beat Steve Reeves. This competition left a deep mark on Reg and gave him more confidence to continue his training journey. Following a year of great dedication and some serious training, Reg Park took the National Amateur Bodybuilders Association Mr. Universe title in 1951 and became the first man outside of US to have this honor. This title was followed by two more Pro. Mr. Universe titles in 1958 and 1965.
Not only did he look amazing, but Reg also enjoyed a great strength. Actually, he was the first man to bench press more than 500 pounds and he often performed in strongman contests. He also grew as an actor and made five Italian movies. Reg Park appeared in many popular magazines, including the cover of Muscle & Fitness. He died in 2007 after 8 months of struggle with metastasized melanoma.
